Montebello : $4 Million for New School
Nearly $4 million in state funds have been approved to build an elementary school in the Montebello Unified School District.
The funds were approved by the state Allocation Board to build a 23,000-square-foot facility for 504 kindergarten-through-sixth-grade students.
Officials applied for the funds last year because of increasing enrollment in the 30,000-student district, said Stephen Phillips, district business manager.
A site has not been selected and a construction date has not been scheduled but the school will be in the southern part of the district, either in Commerce or Bell Gardens, which are heavily populated, Phillips said.
The Montebello school district includes the cities of Montebello, Commerce, Bell Gardens and portions of San Gabriel, Pico Rivera and East Los Angeles.
