Yoest’s 19 Points Help Crespi Reach Basketball Final

Steve Yoest scored 19 points to lead Crespi to a 55-54 victory over Woodland Hills on Saturday in the American Roundball Corp. playoffs at North Hollywood High. Woodland Hills was led by Andy Jercha and Ricky Hergott, who each scored 17.
The victory moves Crespi into today’s final in the college division of the playoffs against Mid-Valley, which defeated Moorpark on Saturday, 62-47. Moorpark plays Woodland Hills today for third place.
The college division involves players who have graduated high school.
In the division’s fifth-place game, San Fernando defeated Encino, 48-47, behind Joey Campanella’s 18 points. Dave Nielsen added 17 and Chris Knight scored 16. Encino’s Jerry Dorsey scored 24.
In high school freshman-sophomore division play Saturday, Westwood defeated Northridge, 49-36, and Santa Monica beat Westlake, 53-49.
In the eighth-grade division, East Valley defeated Pomona, 47-23, and Mid-Valley beat Rivera, 35-34. In the seventh-grade-and-under division, Victoria Park Stars defeated Victoria Park Sons, 61-16, and Compton sixth grade beat Compton seventh grade, 42-41.
In each division, Saturday’s winners play today for first place and Saturday’s losers play for third.
