S. Korean Troops Fired Across Border, N. Korea Charges

SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea claimed Saturday that South Korean soldiers fired across the border in the second such incident in a week, but the U.N. Command in Seoul denied the report.
Radio Pyongyang, the official North Korean station, claimed that South Korean forces fired heavy machine guns and small automatic weapons across the border’s Demilitarized Zone at 5:17 p.m. Friday and again at 7:38 p.m. The broadcast, monitored in Tokyo, did not report any injuries.
However, an official with the U.N. Command, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “There was no firing. The North Korean charge is false.”
