Local News in Brief : Blasts in Car, Mailbox Blamed on Pranksters
Two explosions in Reseda that damaged a car and destroyed a mailbox several blocks away were probably the work of teen-age pranksters, Los Angeles police said Friday.
Detective John Mattingly said he has not ruled out other motives, “but my hunch is that it was just kids doing a little vandalism.â€
The explosions occurred about 10:45 p.m. Thursday.
Soon after a pipe bomb blew up a mailbox in the 7700 block of Jellico Avenue, a similar device was tossed into a car in the 7400 block of Amestoy Avenue, burning the vehicle’s carpeting, Mattingly said.
Neither explosion caused injuries. No arrests have been made, Mattingly said.
