Protest Planned: A vigil to protest U.S. aid to the contras , or Nicaraguan rebels, will be held today at the federal building from noon to 1 p.m. The vigil coincides with other protests throughout the country planned by the Pledge of Resistance, a network of individuals and organizations committed to ending intervention by the United States in Nicaragua. Organizers said the vigil will highlight a filibuster, or extended debate in the U.S. Senate planned by Alan Cranston (D-Calif.) and other senators next week.
