A 30-year-old man was killed early Sunday after he lost control of his car and was dragged along Escondido Canyon Road in Acton.
Russell Paul, 30, of Acton was driving eastbound near Puritan Mine Road about 12:15 a.m. when his car careened off the roadway, turned back onto the pavement, then veered sideways and struck an embankment, California Highway Patrol Officer Lujuanna Lopez said.
The car then tipped over on its left side, partially throwing the driver to the pavement. Paul, who was not wearing a seat belt, was dragged along the pavement for 40 to 50 feet, the CHP spokeswoman said.
Paul was driving at between 60 and 65 m.p.h. when the accident occurred, Lopez said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
