Redondo Beach : Treasurer Wants More Pay
City Treasurer Alice DeLong complained to the City Council this week that her salary and that of the city clerk are not equitable with those of other department heads.
DeLong said she was content with her salary of $38,500 until she learned that other department heads earned between $50,000 and $77,000. The city clerk and treasurer are elected officials, however, and under the City Charter their salaries cannot be increased during their four-year terms, which expire March 31.
DeLong said she has assumed duties not given to her under the charter and asked if she could be compensated for those duties now. The city staff is researching whether that can be done legally. If not, Councilwoman Kay Horrell suggested removing duties from any employee who is not being compensated for them.
City Clerk John Oliver was on vacation and not at the meeting.
