COLOMBO, Sri Lanka — A bomb exploded aboard an intercity bus in north-central Sri Lanka today, killing 28 passengers and wounding 40, a military spokesman said.
The spokesman said the bus was en route from the town of Vavuniya to the sacred Buddhist city of Anuradhapura about 33 miles away when the bomb exploded. The incident occurred two days after 29 people died in a bus explosion in the same area. There was no claim of responsibility for either attack, but authorities blamed Tamil separatists for both.
