Hermosa Beach : Open-Space Issue on Ballot

Residents will be asked to preserve 15 open-space sites, approve a four-year property tax to provide for police, fire and paramedic services, and limit density in residential zones at a special city election Nov. 4.

The City Council voted this week to consolidate the election with the statewide election.

If the proposed open-space ordinance passes, 15 sites--including five former school sites--could not be altered from open-space designation without approval of voters.

The property tax for police, fire and paramedic services would be $52 a year for each parcel, except where more than one dwelling unit is located. The tax would then be $52 a year for each unit.

Voters also will be asked to prohibit reductions in minimum lot areas required for each dwelling in residential zones without another vote.
