Punjab security forces raided the headquarters of a Sikh extremist group at the end of a 24-hour police sweep along the India-Pakistan border, the Press Trust of India reported. The news agency quoted Amritsar district police chief M.I. Alam as saying the headquarters was discovered in marshlands at Mand during raids by 2,000 paramilitary troops and police. Alam did not say how many people were apprehended there, but authorities said a total 180 suspected extremists were arrested in raids in Amritsar, Karputhala and Ferozepur districts. The Sikh extremists are seeking to set up an independent state.
