First Lady, Rev. Jackson Share Words on Drugs
WASHINGTON — Nancy Reagan and the Rev. Jesse Jackson agreed to continue their efforts to fight drug abuse “until everyone is willing to take a moral position†against it, the First Lady’s press secretary said Thursday.
In an unusual White House meeting between Mrs. Reagan and the former Democratic presidential contender, the two “shared their mutual concerns regarding the problems of drug abuse,†said Press Secretary Elaine Crispen.
“Mrs. Reagan told the Rev. Jackson that she was very happy to see so many people coming forth and taking an active role in this issue, and she was very appreciative of the work he was doing with the churches,†Crispen said after the hourlong meeting.
