Two wheels on the northbound Amtrak “San Diegan” passenger train ran off the track five miles north of San Juan Capistrano, but all the cars remained upright and there were no injuries, a railroad official said. Passengers aboard the San Diego-to-Los Angeles train were delayed for about three hours and at least three other trains were delayed because of the incident, Amtrak spokesman Tony Mastrangello said. The 175 passengers were taken to San Diego and Los Angeles by bus and aboard other trains.
