San Diego police officers responding Thursday morning to a report of an assault in the 2800 block of Broadway found a man dead in the doorway of an apartment.
The victim, Jefrey D. Denham, 30, had been shot once in the chest, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
Police have no suspects in the case but are searching for a man who was seen leaving the apartment shortly after the shooting, Robinson said.
