Nuns’ Ransom Cut to $5,000

ILIGAN CITY, Philippines — A ransom demand for 10 kidnaped Filipino nuns was reduced to $5,000 today, and they and a U.S. Protestant minister abducted from nearby were believed to be in good health, the military said.
Col. Raul Aquino, area military commander, added, however, that the leader of the nuns’ kidnapers has insisted that he be granted immunity from prosecution and promoted to management at a government agency where he formerly worked. No money was demanded for release of Presbyterian minister Brian Lawrence, 30, of Madison, Wis., who was being held separately, Aquino said.
