The Chicago-based media concern said it will acquire the Daily Press Inc., a family-owned company that publishes the Daily Press and the Times-Herald in Newport News, Va., for $200 million. The purchase, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year, ends several decades of private ownership by the Van Buren and Bottom families. The sale also includes Newport News Cablevision and Piedmont Cablevision of Danville, Va. Tribune Co., however, has indicated that it will resell the cable-TV system.
