WASHINGTON — AT&T; reduced the cost of some phone calls by a penny Friday by cutting rates for calls that go 56 to 124 miles and for calls that travel 1,911 to 3,000 miles.
The savings, which will total $9 million a year, were generated by reductions in the charges local companies pass on to long-distance companies for connecting their calls to the local network of phone lines.
