Cleaning the Harbor: For the sixth year, residents turned out to collect trash from the nooks and crannies of Newport Harbor and bag the refuse to be hauled away. In a cleanup program sponsored by the Newport Harbor Chamber of Commerce, about 250 residents worked from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday gathering the trash, said Terry Jackson, assistant manager at the Cannery Restaurant. The restaurant’s owner, Bill Hamilton, initiated the program, she said. A dumpster “about four times the size of a large residential dumpster” was filled with the trash collected, Jackson said.
