Dolly Parton is making a holiday-themed TV movie for ABC, “A Dolly Christmas.” In it she plays a Hollywood star who escapes the pressures of her career by traveling incognito to her native Smoky Mountains. There she encounters seven orphans on the run.

CBS plans to add two new action shows to its late-night schedule next season, joining “Night Heat” and reruns of “T.J. Hooker” and “Simon & Simon.” The new shows are “Adderly,” about a government agent who helps “outsiders in trouble,” and “Crimeworld,” about the exploits of two writers for a magazine that reports on crime.

Lindsay Wagner and Armand Assante are teamed as wife and husband in “Stranger in My Bed,” a TV movie due to air on NBC next season. The film revolves around the difficulties that arise when Wagner’s character is struck by an automobile, goes into a coma for two weeks and then wakes up suffering from total amnesia.

Comedians Steve Allen and Alan King will represent the United States in the next installment of “Great Confrontations at the Oxford Union,” to be broadcast on PBS. The question under discussion is whether Americans or the British are funnier. Representing the English point of view will be Jasper Carrott and John Wells.

Justine Bateman, who plays Mallory on NBC’s “Family Ties” series, will be seen in a TV movie next season. She’ll play a young blind woman struggling to break free of her overprotective family in “Can You Feel Me Dancing?”

Polly Bergen has been signed to play Rhoda Henry again in “War and Remembrance,” ABC’s sequel to “The Winds of War.” She’ll be seen opposite Robert Mitchum, who is re-creating his role as Navy officer Pug Henry in the multipart drama about World War II.
