Argentine Airline Pilots Begin Strike

BUENOS AIRES — Pilots of the Argentine state airline, Aerolineas Argentinas, began an indefinite strike at midnight Monday, paralyzing national and international services.

A spokesman for the pilots said they are seeking an agreement with the government to raise monthly wages from an average $1,200 to $2,200 over a period of about one year.

Teachers also pledged to begin a 72-hour work stoppage today, and Saul Ubaldini, the nation’s top labor leader, said the General Labor Confederation will proceed with its seventh general strike “in the next days.”
