Rebel Land Mine Kills Three in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka — Tamil extremists detonated a remote-controlled bomb under an army truck Saturday, killing two soldiers and their civilian Sinhalese driver and badly wounding five soldiers, the military reported. The incident took place as a convoy of trucks passed near Habarane, 100 miles northeast of Colombo.
On Friday, Sri Lankan security forces raided a Tamil guerrilla hideout in the village of Kiran, 20 miles north of Batticaloa, killing nine rebels in a six-hour battle, a government official said.
