A review of overtime and expense claims in other state departments should be expedited to determine whether there have been more abuses like those in Caltrans, said the chairmen of two Assembly committees. The auditor general had reported that more than $284,000 in inappropriate travel and overtime claims was paid to DOT employees during the 10 months ending April 30. Transportation Committee Chairman Richard Katz (D-Sepulveda) and Government Efficiency and Cost Control Committee Chairman Rusty Areias (D-Los Banos) asked for a report within 30 days on overtime claims in the California Youth Authority. Areias said prompt reviews of other departments will be sought.
