The Standard Shoe Co. has closed its store on Ventura Boulevard in Woodland Hills, but the company plans to expand by opening smaller stores. The 23 employees affected by the closing are being offered jobs at some of the 11 other Standard Shoes stores, including outlets in North Hollywood, Northridge and West Los Angeles.
Brian Berenbaum, who managed the Woodland Hills store, said the Inglewood-based company sold the 11,000-square-foot Woodland Hills outlet to a real estate group that will rent it to two furniture retailers.
Six Standard Shoes outlets, each about the size of the one in Woodland Hills, are expected to open during the next 18 months, Berenbaum said. Two likely locations are Thousand Oaks and Tarzana, he said.
