Local News in Brief : Illegal Pesticides Found in Pacoima, Raiders Say
- Share via
Araid on a Pacoima chemical company Thursday afternoon by an environmental strike force of the Los Angeles city attorney’s office uncovered more than 10 pesticides that were not registered for sale in California, city officials said.
Waco Chemicals, at 12306 Montague St., was searched by representatives of the county agricultural commissioner’s office, the state Food and Agriculture Department and the Los Angeles Police Department, said Deputy City Atty. Steven Tekosky, who led the raid.
Tekosky said the strike force found many drums, cans and plastic containers of illegal pesticides--which he would not name--in a large warehouse.
The company was prohibited from moving any of the unregistered chemicals until the investigation is complete, he said.
Richard Mariant, company manager, said the products that were the subject of the raid account for “only 1 or 2% of our business.”
