Gilbert Perreault, the Buffalo Sabres’ first-ever draft choice in 1970 who went on to become the cornerstone of the NHL expansion franchise, announced his retirement in Buffalo. Perreault finished his NHL career with 503 goals and 1,310 assists, and was the 12th player to reach the 500-goal mark.
