Former U.S. Rep. Jerry M. Patterson, who ran third in an election for county supervisor earlier this month, has affiliated with the Los Angeles-based law firm of Memel, Jacobs, Pierno, Gersh & Ellsworth. Patterson is working out of the firm’s Newport Beach office in an “of counsel” position, which is akin to being an independent contractor.
“My goal is to do some lobbying, to work with financial institutions and to develop some real estate business,” he said Monday.
Memel, Jacobs is known nationally primarily for its health care law practice, but it is an amalgam of boutique practices that includes real estate law and “some banking,” Patterson said. The potential exists, he said, to develop a strong banking law practice and join the firm as a partner. Patterson was a senior member of the House Banking Committee when he served in Congress.
