Asbestos Exposure Limits Cut

WASHINGTON — The government today ordered a tenfold reduction in worker exposure to asbestos, saying the lower ceilings will reduce by 90% the thousands of deaths and disabling illnesses blamed on dust from the material.
The new Occupational Safety and Health Administration exposure ceiling follows a proposal by the Environmental Protection Agency last January to eventually ban use of asbestos entirely, and rid the environment of all products containing the insulating material over the next 10 years.
