Man Who Slashed Himself After Sex Attack on 2 Women Sentenced to 47 Years in Prison
A man who slashed his throat and wrists after tying up and sexually assaulting two women he had invited to his house for a party was sentenced Thursday to 47 years in state prison.
Anthony Crane, 36, was convicted last month of four counts of assault with intent to commit rape, two counts each of assault with a deadly weapon and rape by instrumentality, and one count each of false imprisonment and forcible oral copulation.
He was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Paul Boland.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Rebecca Omens said Crane was a neighbor of one of his victims and previously worked with the other victim at a furniture manufacturing company.
The prosecutor said the two women, both in their early 30s, were invited by Crane to his Los Angeles house for a holiday party last December, but when they got there, they learned they were the only guests.
When the first woman arrived, Crane, armed with a knife, tied her up, sexually assaulted her and slashed her on a leg and arm.
When the second woman arrived, Crane also tied her up in his living room and sexually assaulted her.
The terrified woman managed to untie herself and escaped by crashing through a plate-glass window head-first, suffering serious injuries.
Crane then cut the other woman loose, but assaulted her once again before letting her leave the house.
She telephoned police and when officers arrived at Crane’s residence, they observed that he had cut his throat and wrists, Omens said. Crane was hospitalized for the injuries.
