Sanctuary Convictions

In regard to the comment of Immigration and Naturalization Service Commissioner Alan C. Nelson, “Above all, this case has demonstrated that no group, no matter how well meaning or highly motivated, can arbitrarily violate the laws of the United States . . . ,†I would like to say the following:

The word “Sanctuary†implies the best of what the word “America†implies. Conscience and commitment are not classic criminal traits and need no defense. In a case such as this when American “justice†and “law†are put in a higher priority listing than American “conscience†and “commitment,†we have all failed.
