UC San Diego Swept, Eliminated From Division III Baseball Playoffs

UC San Diego’s baseball team was eliminated from the NCAA Western Regional Division III playoffs Saturday as Cal State Stanislaus swept a doubleheader, 7-5 and 6-5, at Turlock. Stanislaus advances to the College World Series June 1 in Ohio.
In the opener, Stanislaus’ Bill Martinelli hit a two-run homer in the seventh for the decisive runs.
In the 11-inning second game, Stanislaus had three consecutive hits with two out, with Jeff Hintz’s RBI single to center capping the inning.
Stanislaus (24-18-1) swept the best-of-five series with three victories. UCSD finished the season 22-19-2.
