New-home sales in San Diego County subdivisions totaled 2,773 in the first quarter of 1986, a 17.5% drop from the 3,361 sales for the same time last year, according to an analysis of deed recordings by Safeco Title Insurance Co.
Resales of existing houses reached 6,891 for the first quarter of this year, a 4.2% decrease from the 7,191 sales for the first quarter of 1985.
“These numbers reflect sales initiated in the last quarter of 1985, traditionally slow months for the industry,” said Denis V. Rottler, Safeco vice president and San Diego manager. He added that there are many transactions in the firm’s escrow department now, leading to an expectation of increased sales activity over 1985.
