CBS Regroups, Drops 14 Series
NEW YORK — CBS, the No. 2 network after six seasons in first place, will try to rebound next season by canceling 14 series--including seven mid-season replacements--airing seven new ones and moving 10 returning shows.
“Trapper John, M.D.†and “Crazy Like a Fox†were among the casualties. “Mike Hammer,†taken off the air when star Stacy Keach was imprisoned on drug charges and currently in reruns, reappears. Mary Tyler Moore, whose “Mary†failed as a mid-season entry, will have a new series which was not on the fall schedule. Stars with new series include Elliott Gould, Dee Wallace-Stone and Pam Dawber.
