French Mayor in Coma

MARSEILLES, France — Veteran French politician Gaston Defferre, 75, who has ruled the city of Marseilles as mayor for more than 30 years, suffered a head injury in a fall and was in a coma, doctors said Tuesday. Doctors at Timone Hospital, where the Socialist politician was put in the intensive care unit early Tuesday, described his condition as critical but stable.
