Bomb Scare Closes Freeway
A false report by a Glassell Park man that a bomb had been planted in his stalled car closed the Pasadena Freeway near downtown in both directions for an hour starting at about 1 a.m. today, police reported.
Police said George Gainza, 32, used the emergency 911 number to call police from his home to report that his car, stalled on the northbound freeway near Academy Road, contained a bomb that might explode. The Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad checked the car and found no trace of explosives. Gainza was later arrested at his home on suspicion of filing a false bomb report.
