NCAA Volleyball : USC, Pepperdine Both Win, Will Meet for Title Tonight
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Defending champion Pepperdine and top-rated USC scored semifinal wins Friday night and will meet tonight in the championship game of the NCAA men’s volleyball tournament.
Pepperdine defeated Penn State, 15-11, 13-15, 15-11, 15-12. USC beat Ohio State, 15-5, 15-10, 15-3.
Pepperdine (21-7) was led by Steve Friedman with 31 spikes and 10 blocks. USC (27-1) was led by David Yoder and Adam Johnson with 20 and 16 spikes, respectively.
USC’s Chao Ying Zhang, an all-conference selection, turned an ankle in the first game and sat out the rest of the match. He is expected to play tonight.
USC and Pepperdine have met twice this season, with the Trojans winning both times. USC’s only loss was to UCLA.
Ohio State (25-14) and Penn State (32-9) will meet for third.
