Memphis State basketball coach Dana Kirk is the subject of an Internal Revenue Service investigation, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

Kirk confirmed during a federal grand jury investigating sports gambling in Memphis last fall that his taxes were being investigated.

Carey McDonald, head of the National High School Athletic Coach’s Assn., said an IRS investigator called him recently to ask if Kirk had been paid for a 1982 speaking engagement by the organization. McDonald confirmed that the amount was $400 or $500.
