Demonstrations for more minority employment at CBS Inc. might begin within two weeks at the Hollywood studios of KCBS-TV Channel 2, the Rev. Jesse Jackson said. After a morning meeting in Beverly Hills with area civil-rights leaders and CBS minority employees, Jackson said supporters of a national network boycott led by his Operation PUSH and Rainbow Coalition would include picketing of the Los Angeles station and, “if that doesn’t work,” acts of civil disobedience. Similar demonstrations at the CBS-owned station in Chicago over the past seven months have resulted in one instance of arrests of demonstrators attempting to enter the network’s building there. Jackson said the demonstrations in Los Angeles will be “synchronized” with demonstrations at CBS-owned TV stations in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia and St. Louis. PUSH is also attempting to persuade minorities in the five cities to stop watching CBS until it increases its number of minority managers, on-air personalities and other employees.
