SPRING HIGHLIGHTS : Hart’s Lee Closes With a Flourish to Secure 2-0 Victory over Burbank
As baseball games wear down, so do many pitchers. Finding a pitcher who gets stronger as the game progresses is harder to come by than ice cream in the Sahara Desert.
Hart High junior David Lee isn’t most pitchers.
Against Foothill League rival Burbank on Friday, Lee gave up four hits in the first four innings, then retired the last 11 batters to secure a 2-0 win for the Indians.
Lee was given all the offensive help he would need in the first, when Tim Nedin tripled in Sheldon Sparks and Jason Edwards.
Lee, a right-hander, struck out three and didn’t walk a batter in improving his record to 4-1.
His performance overshadowed a strong game by Burbank pitcher Leif Christofferson, who gave up only five hits and struck out eight.
The win allowed Hart (14-5 overall, 6-3 in league) to remain two games behind first-place Alhambra (16-2, 8-1), which beat Burroughs on Friday, 9-4.
The Indians, who have won four straight, are bidding for their fifth straight league title.
