NBA Roundup : Bucks Hand Cavaliers Sixth Consecutive Loss

Sidney Moncrief scored 22 points, and Alton Lister blocked World B. Free’s shot with three seconds left Thursday night as the Milwaukee Bucks dimmed Cleveland’s playoff hopes with a 102-101 victory over the Cavaliers at Richfield, Ohio.

Cleveland fell to 28-52 with its sixth straight loss, and trails Chicago by one game in the battle for the eighth and final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference.

The Bulls (29-51) can reach the playoffs if they win at home against Washington tonight and the Cavaliers lose at Boston. Chicago and Cleveland end the regular season Sunday at the Richfield Coliseum.

Free scored 26 points, and Mel Turpin had 25 for Cleveland.

Atlanta 126, New Jersey 117--Dominique Wilkins scored a career-high 57 points in only 38 minutes to regain the NBA scoring lead as the Hawks turned back the Nets at Atlanta.

Wilkins’ total, top one-game mark in the league this season, matched the Hawks’ record set by Bob Pettit of the St. Louis Hawks in 1961 and tied by Atlanta’s Lou Hudson in 1969.

Wilkins has an average of 30.29 points a game to 29.99 for Adrian Dantley of Utah and 29.71 for Alex English of Denver.

Mike Gminski scored 35 points for New Jersey.

Denver 115, Phoenix 113--Danny Schayes scored with one second left to give the Nuggets a victory over the Suns at Denver.

Phoenix had tied the score on a basket by Mike Sanders with three seconds left.

English scored 37 points for Denver, and Walter Davis had 18 for the Suns.

Utah 119, Sacramento 108--Thurl Bailey scored 11 of his 22 points in the final quarter as the Jazz beat the Kings at Sacramento.

LaSalle Thompson had 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Kings. Dantley and Karl Malone added 18 points each for the Jazz.

Dallas 115, Seattle 109--Mark Aguirre and Rolando Blackman scored 19 points each at Seattle as the Mavericks dropped the SuperSonics into sole possession of the Pacific Division cellar.
