Woodbridge’s Russell Almost Perfect

Patti Russell of Woodbridge High School came within inches of pitching a perfect game in an 8-0 Sea View League softball victory Wednesday at Corona del Mar.
A dropped third strike with two out in the second inning, along with a high throw to first, allowed Heather Haskell to reach base. She was the Sea Kings’ only runner.
Russell (4-1), a senior left-hander for the defending league champions, struck out 10. It was her third no-hitter of the season.
The Warriors (5-0, 10-3) are rated No. 1 in the CIF 3-A softball poll.
