Local News in Brief : Man Dies After Truck Flips in Freeway Chase
A man was killed Tuesday night when he was ejected from a pickup truck that crashed on the Ventura Freeway in Studio City while being chased by the California Highway Patrol, authorities said.
The truck was westbound at Laurel Canyon Boulevard about 8 p.m. when it hit the center divider, veered across the freeway and landed upside down in bushes, the CHP said.
Officers closed westbound lanes for about 15 minutes to allow a Los Angeles City Fire Department helicopter to pick up the man who was thrown from the truck. The man, who was not identified, was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, where he later died.
Two other men ran from the pickup but were caught by officers, the CHP said. They were taken by ambulance to the Medical Center of North Hollywood with minor injuries, a Fire Department spokesman said. The two men were not identified.
The pursuit began in the northbound lanes of the Hollywood Freeway, near the transition to the Ventura Freeway, when the pickup failed to pull over for two motorcycle officers, a CHP officer at the scene said. The chase continued onto the Ventura Freeway, the officer said.
