Corsican Rebels Say They Carried Out French Bombings
MARSEILLES, France — The separatist Corsican National Liberation Front claimed responsibility Saturday after 13 bombs exploded in three cities in southern France late Friday. All the targets were banks or government-run facilities, police reported.
Nine bombs went off in Marseilles, three in Nice and one in Aix-en-Provence just west of Marseilles, according to police. Two minor injuries were reported in the attacks.
A bomb also exploded early Saturday in Paris, in front of a Tunisian restaurant, police said. The blast severely damaged the restaurant, “Le Couscous,†and flying glass injured an elderly woman living in a hotel next door.
Banks and a post office were slightly damaged in Marseilles along with a bank in Aix-en-Provence, police said.
The targets in Nice were offices of the Bank of France, Air France and the local electric utility company. Police said the windows and front door of the Air France office were shattered, but the two other attacks caused only minor damage.
Police said a group of people rode through the center of the city in a car, tossing bombs at two-minute intervals.
