The body of an unidentified boy was found in a remote canyon area in the Angeles National Forest above Azusa. Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were flagged down by a person on the roadside who led officers to the body near the east fork of the San Gabriel River in Heaton Canyon, said sheriff’s Lt. George Grasser. Grasser said it was not yet known how the boy, said to be between 10 and 11 years old, had died. Conflicting reports from an unconfirmed source said it appeared the boy may have either drowned or slipped and hit his head on a rock before falling into the river.
