Markus Wasmeier of West Germany raced down an icy Whistler Mountain course in 1 minute 43.23 seconds to win a World Cup super giant slalom ski race by nearly two seconds at Whistler, Canada.
The victory gave Wasmeier the super giant slalom title with 105 points in five races. Pirmin Zurbriggen of Switzerland, who could have caught Wasmeier with a victory if Wasmeier had finished out of the top 10, was ninth in 1:45.69. He finished with 67 points.
