San Diego police are investigating the separate slayings of two men whose bodies were found early Sunday, one near the international border and the other near downtown.
Neither victim has been identified.
The nude body of the first victim, believed to be a Mexican in his mid-20s, was found at about 7 a.m. Sunday in Goat Canyon, west of the international port of entry at San Ysidro. Police believe the victim had been stabbed.
San Diego police gave the following account: The victim and a friend, Geraldo Gomez Vega, 25, were crossing into the United States illegally when they were set upon by bandits and robbed. Gomez Vega was able to escape and alert Mexican police, who confirmed the murder and notified U.S. authorities.
Gomez Vega was reported to be in “very serious” condition at a Tijuana hospital.
The body of the second victim, in his mid-30s, was found at 10:46 a.m. in a car parked in a lot on 25th Street, authorities said. He apparently died as the result of numerous stab wounds, police said.
