Police Investigating Crash Say Driver Seemed to Know Where He Was Going
When Jorge Pena lost control of his car and crashed early Saturday after clipping another auto on West Temple Street, it didn’t take long for Los Angeles police from Rampart Station to reach the scene of the accident.
The accident came to them.
Pena’s car jumped the curb, smashed into a flag pole, grazed a wall, ran over some ivy and came to rest on the front steps of the station house. “He damn near drove himself right into the jail cell,†said Sgt. Joseph Oliveri. “I thought we were under attack.â€.
After officers ran out of the station to investigate the commotion, Pena, 27, of El Salvador, was booked on suspicion of drunk driving. He suffered a broken nose and other minor injuries in the crash. Three other people riding with Pena, including a pregnant woman believed to be his girlfriend, received cuts and bruises.
The driver whose car Pena hit also suffered minor injuries, police said. The driver was not identified.
