St. John’s Is Notified That NCAA Is Looking Into Baldi’s Eligibility
St. John’s, which has nine players and a walk-on, was faced Thursday with the possibility of going down to eight players when it was notified by the NCAA that a question exists about the eligibility of Marco Baldi, a freshman from Italy.
The NCAA is checking to see whether Baldi played professional basketball in Italy. Baldi, a 6-foot 11-inch center, later moved to the United States, played one season at Irvine Woodbridge High School and eventually graduated from Long Island Lutheran High School.
“How many kids have I got?†St. John’s Coach Lou Carnesecca said. “I might have one of you guys (reporters) suit up.â€
St. John’s plays Montana State tonight in a first-round NCAA tournament game at Long Beach Arena.
