Harbor Cagers to Open Playoffs
Giant-killer Harbor College will get another chance to knock off a big-name opponent when the Seahawks play San Francisco City College at 9 p.m. today in the first round of the community college state basketball tournament at Cerritos College.
Harbor, 21-11, has already toppled the state’s No. 1 team, Cerritos, on its way to making the final 16. The Seahawks are led by 6-7 center Kelvin Tyes, the Metropolitan Conference player of the year. The lineup also includes Craig Johnson and Kyle Lundy at guard and Mike Brannon and Stanley Frazier at forwards.
Harbor, in its second year under Coach Donnie Daniels, finished fourth in the Metro Conference but has been playing well since February. The Seahawks have won three playoff games, all considered upsets. “We’re hot, and things are going our way right now,†Daniels said.
San Francisco, 29-2, is the state’s No. 2 team and the top seed in the tournament.
