Bell Gardens : Housing Development Plan
The City Council last week took a first step in forming a nonprofit corporation to assist the city in housing development.
The San Antonio Services Corp.--which was formed earlier to help the city with a federally funded jobs program and was dissolved in 1982--will administer federal funds to help the the city build housing for moderate-income residents, said Maria Aguirre, assistant city manager. The corporation’s nonprofit status would give the city special tax benefits, she said.
She added that it will take about six weeks to process the paper work needed to form the organization.
