Nova Scotia Memories

Elizabeth Deakman’s delightful account of the fishing villages of Nova Scotia (Feb. 9) brought back wonderful memories of our two-day stay there in the fall of 1984. We were on a birding-fall foliage trip to New England but the grand finale in Nova Scotia was the highlight. We took the Saint John ferry to Digby and drove 32 miles down Digby Neck to Sandy Cove, where we stayed in “The Olde Village Inn, rooms & cottages, dining rooms, your hosts: Dixie and Bob Van.” The rooms were tastefully furnished with antiques but had comfortable heating and adequate lighting. The food was marvelous, especially Bob’s scallops, and Dixie mixed a good martini.
