Cal Poly Pomona Women Win Final of CCAA Tourney
Cal Poly Pomona’s women’s basketball team, ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Division II poll, defeated Cal State Northridge, 69-61, Saturday night to win the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. postseason tournament at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
All-American center Vickie Mitchell scored 22 points and had 12 rebounds to lead the defending national champion Broncos.
Forward Debra Lawsen added 20 points and 10 rebounds.
The Broncos (26-3) will play host to the championship game of the West Regional March 11. They have a bye in the first round.
In the CCAA men’s tournament, UC Riverside defeated Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, 72-71, to win the championship. Forward Robert Jimerson led Riverside with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
